The Cambodian Church at One Hundred

                                 Gospel Outreach in Kieng's  Village

Alberta and I started visiting missionaries in Cambodia in the year 2000. Roland and Kieng Heck had only recently been allowed to move there from Thailand as the country opened up to the outside world. Kieng, a Cambodian refugee who fled the killing fields, had met Roland after a refugee resettlement program landed her in Roland's church in California. We have kept in contact over the years and received this update just a few days ago.

"The first missionary to Cambodia arrived in 1922. By 1975 the church had grown to about 10,000. Then the brutal regime of Pol Pot took over and by 1979 it is estimated that only 200 Christians were left in the country. In 1990 the government gave permission for the church to function openly again and today there are upwards of 500,000 believers. Kieng will be overseeing 130 volunteers during the 100 year celebration of the Gospel arriving in Cambodia. The Prime Minister, Hun Sen, will be speaking at this celebration with an expected turn out of 10,000. This celebration service is Friday January 27 and Saturday, January 28. Let's pray for the Cambodian church to continue to prosper after so much hardship and persecution.

Prayer Requests:

1. We are two weeks out from our departure for the Philippines. We are receiving more requests to minister and need wisdom on which invitations to accept and be able to prepare for. Pray for us as we consider opportunities.

2. We are traveling this weekend to Atlanta to help Krista as she continues to set up her condo. Pray that we can accomplish the things she has on her to/do list and have a good time doing it!

3. Pray for Heather as she settles back into life in Glasgow. She continues with a couple of online gigs and teaching English through a theatre that is reaching out to an immigrant community.

Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
