 Running in Your Lane

As I (Steve) facilitate men's groups we usually have a devotional time and then a prayer time for one another. We often alternate in sharing devotional thoughts. I was preparing to share a devotional thought after listening to John Ortberg share from Hebrews12:1-2:
The phrase "run with endurance the race that is set before us" jumped out at me.

It is so often easy to compare ourselves with others and develop a mental competition in our discipleship and service to the Lord. We see that in missionary teams sometimes but the Scriptures are clear. There is a race set before each of us that is for us

Eccl. 9:11 gives us a bit more of a hint in what this race business means! It says "the race is not to the swift ..... but time and chance happen to all men!" God has given us each a set of circumstances - genes, family history, socio-economic parameters, geography and time period - within which to run our race. Jesus is aware of those factors and tracks with each of us in our lane. We hope you will be encouraged as you run your race with endurance today and keep your eyes on Jesus and not the circumstances swirling around you or the people trying to influence you.

Prayer Requests:

1. Pray for me (Steve) - I've had a couple of contacts with guys at our local gym and one came to church this past Sunday. A church member and I are planning to have coffee with him on Saturday. He is new in town and going through a divorce - his name is Jason.
2. Pray for Alberta as she and her co-facilitators continue their online course of Equipping Women Int. with 7 Filipinas (early Tuesday mornings).
3. We are planning to be in Holland in October. We will be visiting some of Alberta's relatives and seeing some sights. Heather hopes to come over from Scotland and join us for a few days with a friend. Pray that those plans come together for us.

Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
