Riding on the Edge
Doing pastoral care for Christian workers in Asia calls for flexibility in modes of travel. At 5 pm in Chengdu, China finding a taxi is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Solution: grab one of these 3 wheelers and hope it doesn't rain. This is was our first ride in a convertible 3 wheeler. We thoroughly enjoyed the 'creative' techniques our driver used to get us to our destination.
One of our destinations required a 11 hour bus trip that had but one honest bathroom stop 3 hrs. into the trip. Yes, the human body can do some pretty amazing things when there aren't other alternatives! We crept along mountain roads with inches between us and oncoming traffic on one side and steep drop off on the other. This closeup was our view as we squeaked by another bus. Thank you for your prayers for our travels.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for both of us as we prepare a session on "Self Care" to be presented to a group of interns from Bethany studying here in Chiang Mai next week. Being self aware of the mental, physical and emotional limits is key to resilience in an overseas Christian worker.
2. Pray for ourselves and our co-workers, Dan and Tricia Dougherty, as we prepare to host a Member Care Facilitator training Oct. 28-31. We are wading through some of the challenges of bringing people from all over Asia to attend this 3 day workshop.
Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
