Out of Gas!
Empty cooking gas tanks everywhere |
Thank you for praying for our trip to Nepal. Our hearts go out to the people of Nepal (and Team's workers) at this difficult time in the nation's history. After a devastating earthquake that killed 9000 and over 200 aftershocks we would hope they could, with international help, begin to rebuild their country and their lives. However, much of that help has been sidelined by a crippling blockade of fuel, cooking gas and medicine. Political groups unhappy that the new constitution did not mandate Hinduism as the state religion have chosen to punish the whole country by cutting off the flow of supplies from India, Nepal's primary trading partner.
The blockade has added additional stress to the hyper vigilance people experience because of the ongoing aftershocks. Just before we headed to Nepal we were 'skyping' about our plans with one of the Nepal workers when an alarm went off and our friend and his family ducked beneath the kitchen table until the shaking stopped!
On our visit we had a chance to connect with 10 different couples or singles so our one week stay in Kathmandu was packed with debriefs. Please pray for these workers' resilience in the face of so many challenges.
Praise report! Alberta has been accepted to do a masters at Columbia Int. U. in "Ministry Care".
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for our trip to Indonesia Dec. 15-29. We will be visiting old friends and taking a short vacation.
2. Pray for Alberta as she begins navigating student financial aid and coming up to speed on distance learning.
3. Pray for us as we miss our kids at this time of year. It's hard to be 12,000 miles from family at Christmas time!
Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
