Sukhothai Saga
Dear Family and Friends,
With Chiang Mai such a hub for rest, medical treatment and counseling we often have opportunity to host Christian workers in our home. Such was the case with Michelle who had an emergency C-section at a local hospital. We offered our home as a place for her to recuperate with their baby, Journey, while her husband, Grant, returned to Sukhothai where he works as an English teacher.
We hadn't made many forays outside Chiang Mai so we offered to take Michelle and Journey on - well - the 5 hr. journey home to Sukhothai. About an hour outside of Chiang Mai as we were passing through the city of Lampang, the temperature gauge on our car moved into the red zone (the saga begins). Thankfully, we were just 5 kilometers from a Honda service center. We booked a local hotel and the mechanics tackled our overheating problem for the next two days. Finally, at 6 pm the following day our engine was cool again and we were on our way south - total bill for parts and labor for 10 hrs. of work - $90.
Sukhothai was designated a World Heritage site by Unesco in 1991. Thai historians consider it the birthplace and the first capital city of Thailand. There are amazing ruins of the 12th century royal palace and Buddhist temple sites just a few miles from the new Sukhothai City. Lets pray for this young family as they integrate into the local community.
Prayer Requests:
1. Though we can't share details of the pastoral care cases we deal with from day to day, please pray for wisdom for us as we network with our pastoral care team on behalf of the Christian workers we serve here in Asia.
2. Pray for a "Stress Assessment" certification training seminar we will attend on Aug. 15. We will be learning how to administer and debrief an online assessment designed to help Christian workers evaluate and address the stresses they are experiencing.
Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
