Together, Fit For His Use

As we debriefed the Smiths (not their real names), we felt empathy for them. Their teammates had criticized them and judged their motives after they wisely pulled back from helping in a local business. Their reason: the need to focus on Chinese studies and care for their brand new baby. The Smith's response to their team was not an eye for an eye but a humble - "We'll consider your words and do the best we can".

We encouraged them that they had done the right thing for the long term good of their future ministry, family and personal sanity. The next day we joined them and their co-workers in a worship service led by a visiting ministry group. God moved wonderfully, as if in response to the purity of their hearts. The visiting pastor who preached zeroed in on the importance of not allowing anything to hinder fellowship. As he concluded, one of their teammates stood with tears streaming down his face and confessed of having been strict and judgemental toward the Smiths. Then the rest of the team jumped to their feet and reinforced their love for the Smiths. While we didn't understand all of what was said (English is not the common language of the team) it was clear to see that God had moved and the team had responded. Thanks for your prayers for our 2 weeks in China. It was tiring but so rewarding and such a privilege for us to come alongside so many wonderful servants of the Lord.

Prayer Requests:

1) Pray for Alberta as she attends a 10 day workshop on Bible Study preparation with Equipping Women Int. here in Chiang Mai.
2) Pray for our plans to visit Nepal Nov. 21-29. Fuel, cooking gas and other essentials are being blockaded at the Indian border, causing huge disruptions in life throughout the country. This turmoil is on top of the recent earthquakes that have set them back 10 yrs. as a nation. Unless there is a breakthrough, those we visit may not be able to insure that our transportation and basic needs could be met under these circumstances.
3. Pray for the continued application processes of Alberta, Heather and Krista as they pursue advanced studies.

Serving Christ With You, Steve and Alberta
