The House of Success

                                                  

Alberta and I wanted to update you on how the school for Pakistani refugee children is doing that we brought to your attention back in December . We and two other couples continue to provide oversight for this school of undocumented kids.

The House of Success Learning Center has now been up and running since the middle of September.  During that time, the school location has moved three times but is now situated in a very large room in the house where the teacher and her family lives. It is on a quiet street which attracts no undue attention and is in close proximity to where the families live. The kids come each day on their “new” used bicycles. 

The kids' eight desks ring the large room with space in the center for one-on-one tutoring with the teacher.  We also have the beginnings of a nice library where the kids choose books to read during after school hours.  The kids are given time to run and play outside, playing soccer, badminton and Frisbee golf. 

As of now, most of the students have been able to make up nearly an entire year of lost schooling and we are feeling very optimistic about them making up another year by June. (They were not able to attend school for 2 yrs. in Bangkok – while they and their families hid from the Immigration police). The kids are eager learners and have a new appreciation for their studies.

Through your prayers and gifts, we have received enough funding to run the school though the end of the 2016-2017 school year. This is exactly what we hoped for (one exception is the cost of the new ACE curriculum the teacher would like to order).  Thank you for your willingness to be involved with these children who are in need of education.  The refugee crisis is huge around the world and it is difficult to know how to help, but together we are tackling the problem one step at time. Remember the Chinese proverb “A trip of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” Thanks for stepping out with us.
