150 miles to our north, the life and death drama of the 12 Thai boys and their coach, trapped in a cave, pulled at our heart strings. There was something about the urgency that captivated us. There are many tragedies unfolding around the world. Three million Yemeni people are facing starvation. Up to three thousand migrant children have been separated from their parents on the US's southern border. All are crucial needs deserving of attention.
Yet, the world's attention was riveted to the dangerous rescue of the twelve Thai boys and their soccer coach. It was hard not to get caught up with the many parallels in this story to the Christian faith. Those who were lost in darkness were 'transported' (with scuba gear) into the light. No expense was spared to bring the boys out. One of the cave diving experts said "Getting 13 out of 13 out alive - a miracle of miracles!" A brave diver gave his life to rescue the soccer team. It's the salvation story, plain and simple.
300 miles south of us, we have learned of a movement of Thai people coming to faith - 5000 have become followers of Jesus in the last two years. Pray that more would recognize the darkness they live in and choose to follow Christ, the Light of the World!
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for Christian workers here in Asia in general for their ability to remain in the locations of their ministry. Visas are getting more and more difficult to renew and maintain.
2. Pray for us as we work with people struggling in their relationships with others. ''Baggage' from the past has a way of popping open in the present.
