A Peace Child Story

One of the most humbling and powerful parts of our conference in India was hearing the participants' stories of their experiences in ministry. One couple had just returned from a two week trek into the mountains of Nepal where they visited a group of Lomi Christians. About 5 years ago Maoist rebels burned the Lomi church in that area and beat up the Christians. Not long after, one of the Maoist rebel commanders was brutally murdered. However, it was clear that it was not the Christians' doing. The commander's wife gave birth shortly after he was killed but was so poor that she couldn't care for him. Even though the rebels had treated the Lomi Christians so terribly, one of the Lomi families took the child in, bringing peace where there had been unrest. The couple reported that the child was flourishing. When the couple arrived to visit the Lomi, the rebels donated food items for the Lomis' guests and made a point of thanking the Christians for caring for the commander's son. Praise God for the powerful message of "loving your enemies" that the Lomi believers were able to demonstrate to the Maoist rebels. The rest of the story - is - yet to be told.

The Christian workers we met with ranged in age from mid 20s to a couple who were retiring after 40 years of serving the Lord in 3 countries. Some of the challenges they are facing include: 1) not having enough rain to fill water storage tanks 2) angry mobs demanding money and threatening the medical staff at a Christian hospital 3) stressful living in an environment where everything is different.

Pray for us as we follow up with those we met.

Serving Christ with You, Steve & Alberta
