Steaming Babies

Our trip to western Nepal was an unforgettable experience. The commitment and sacrifice of the medical and educational workers we support was inspirational. We toured the local hospital they work at and noticed the device you see pictured here - a hair dryer for warming new born babies. We are told that babies delivered in these primitive conditions in winter time emerge steaming due to the low temps. A new hospital (pictured below) is under construction to replace the aging structure next to the new construction. The statistics are daunting - 1500 babies were delivered last year in this hospital. People come from the surrounding districts - sometimes carrying their relative on their backs through the mountains to get them care. We don't often ask for special donations but we feel this is a special opportunity. The Nepali Christian organization that oversees this hospital is partnering with an organization called Medshare that collects good quality used hospital equipment - re-conditons it and sends it out in containers to needy medical facilities in the third world. The hospital in Dadeldhura is raising funds to ship a 40 ft. container filled with medical equipment they desperately need. The funds raised cover the cost of shipping the donated equipment.
