The Evergreen Story

About a hundred years ago a seventeen yr. old Norwegian young man named Peter Torjesen responded to a challenge to take the gospel to China. He emptied his wallet, then wrote on a piece of paper "og mit liv" (and my life) and dropped it in the offering plate too. He made good on his commitment giving 25 yrs of service to the Chinese people and, ultimately, his life - dying in a bombing raid by the Japanese in WWII.

In the late 1980s a  Chinese doctor visiting a relative in Minnesota miraculously came into contact with the Torjesen family. An invitation was issued from the Chinese province of Shanxi, where Peter Torjesen had served and died.  The Torjesen family was asked to come to China again to serve the Chinese people. In 1992 one of Peter's grandchildren and his family and several others burdened for China began a ministry  primarily to the poor, through agriculture, education  and medical projects. God has blessed Evergreen with many talented believers who are able to use their expertise to assist the Chinese and glorify God.
We were privileged to minister God's Word at Evergreen's annual retreat. We also had lots of opportunity to interact with individuals during our 4 day visit. There was also time for a 50 km bike ride (next time we want double padded seats!). We rode out to an old village where ancient homes had been dug into the sides of hills. Prayer Requests:

1. Healing for both of us - recovering from flu and coughs.
2. A productive two weeks of training at a member care seminar being offered here in Chiang Mai Oct. 14-26.
