Alberta is Back

Alberta had a great time celebrating her brother Wally's wedding to Carolyn. As you can see from the picture she's a rose among many thorns! She had lots of great contact with family, even being able to squeeze in a quick (14 hr) trip to Tennessee (with her brother Rick) to take a family heirloom down and see Heather and Krista. She arrived in TN at 11 pm and left the following morning, making it back to Ontario in 13 hours. It was a record short visit with the girls!

An Identity Crisis

I (Steve) recently lost control, temporarily, of my yahoo email account. After a trip to the computer repair shop my computer was sending out triple responses, with extra copies arriving in my inbox. The thought of closing down my 20 yr. yahoo identity was awful!

It reminded me of a scary experience we had back in 1994. We had been making plans to return to the US for our furlough. Alberta had just finished her paperwork for citizenship. We had our itinerary mapped out for months of travel, plane tickets purchased, money withdrawn from the bank, passports in hand, Alberta's citizenship papers - all in the briefcase I was carrying.

We stopped at a McDonalds and ordered lunch. After finishing up, I reached for my briefcase and came up empty handed. I almost passed out! The briefcase was no where to be found. Alberta pointed me toward the counter where we ordered.  She insisted I go ask if they had seen it even though my faith was 'out to lunch' at that moment. There, right next to the cash register, sat my briefcase. Whew!

I will never forget the 90 seconds of terror I experienced as I realized I had lost my  identity (and the rest of the family's) and all the things we needed for our furlough.  According to God's word, multitudes of people will face a similar identity crisis when they come before God empty handed, having trusted in their own works instead of Christ's finished work. Let's allow Jesus to live through us that others may see Him in us and come know Him.

Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
