Ollie Ballen for the New Year

Just before we run out to our church New Year's Eve gathering we want to share a Dutch tradition with you. Alberta has been delighting our family and friends with 'Ollie Ballen' - literally oil balls - for as many years as I've known her. It happens every New Year's Eve. The apple flavored pastry is cooked like a fritter and dipped in powdered sugar. Best while hot!
