The Power of Imagination

As we wound our way down the mountain road from the venue of our annual conference in Nepal, we noticed people packing bulky bundles of pine needles down the mountain side. Some entrepreneur with an imagination has figured out a way to turn pine needles into electricity!

When one of the Christian workers we debriefed at the conference arrived in a mountain village deep in the Himalayas, her first assignment for her elementary level students was to ask them to think of a a story. Then they were to draw a picture from that story. Blank paralyzed stares met Carrie wherever she looked. The Nepali children had no stories in their memory from which to imagine pictures. "Tell us what to draw teacher" they said.

So for the next 2 yrs. Carrie told stories to the children - wonderful stories about animals, princes, ships on the sea, lion's dens and wedding feasts - lots of stories! Then she took large pieces of paper and folded and trimmed them and told each child to make their own book.  The kids sprang into action - their imaginations alive with pictures from what they had learned. Praise God for His servant and her ability to stimulate the children's God given imagination and bring hope to this primitive mountain village.

Prayer Requests:

1. Pray for favor for Christian workers in Nepal with local officials as it becomes more difficult to get visas to stay in the country.
2. Pray for us as we plan two upcoming trips (back to back).
  a) Delhi, India - Christian workers annual conference April 2-7
      b) Mindoro, Philippines April 11-18 - Steve will speak to a youth camp.
3. Pray for wisdom and the Spirit's direction in debriefs and messages.

Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
