The Saturdays of Life
John Ortberg put together a message on the least popular day in Holy Week, Saturday. His contention was that our lives are mostly lived in between crises and their resolution. The Lord was crucified on Friday and resurrected on Sunday but the disciples hid behind closed doors that Saturday in fear and disillusionment. As I alluded to Ortberg's message in my Holy Friday sermon on our Philippines trip, there was a Bethany elder in the audience that was deep into a "Saturday struggle". His wife was dying after a long battle with cancer.
We visited him and his wife the next day (Saturday) and realized it was only a matter of time before her passing. We prayed that she would not suffer long and, in God's mercy, she was released from her earthly body on resurrection Sunday morning. What a privilege to speak at one of the nine evening wake services and declare that God's ways are higher than ours. He doesn't waste any of our trials or sorrows. Pray for brother Andy and his family as they move through the grieving process.
Prayer Requests:
1. We just received word that one of the early founders of Bethany and personal friend, Jim Pope, passed away April 23rd. Pray for all of us who loved and knew this man as we both grieve his passing and rejoice at his heavenly victory over death! We plan to attend the funeral Monday, April 30th at Bethany.
2. Pray for us as we head to Canada after the funeral to visit Alberta's family. Her mom is 95 and having difficulties with memory.
3. Continue to pray for Heather in her quest to obtain a Canadian passport that could help her in employment opportunities in the UK after she finishes her studies.
