On an internet call with a couple we meet regularly with (we'll call them Omar and Shana) we learned of a growing movement of the gospel in Bangladesh. A baptism was held two months ago after which one of the women baptized returned to her village and shared her faith with friends and relatives (remember how the woman at the well returned to her village and there was a huge response?) Fifty to sixty families want to follow Jesus.
Now, the people of that village are requesting Omar and Shana to come and teach on baptism. Omar tells us that they will only baptize a married person if their spouse is also requesting baptism. It is too dangerous for only one of the spouses to be baptized in this Muslim culture. Also, they must survey carefully for a place of baptism that will not draw public attention.
What
a joy it is to walk alongside Omar and Shana as they see God expanding their
Gospel ministry in the villages of Bangladesh. Pray for this upcoming baptism
that all who would public confess their faith in Jesus through this act of
obedience would understand its meaning and, like the lady who brought
the gospel to them, go and do likewise! Pray for protection and wisdom during the time of the service. Pray also for Omar and Shana as they balance their married life and their increasing ministry opportunities.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for Alberta and I as we walk the tightrope of being part time member care consultants in organizations that are running full time.
2. Pray for us as we deepen our connections to a local church. We want to serve locally as well so I (Steve) have volunteered to help on the grounds while Alberta is helping out at our church's food pantry.
3. Pray for our Christmas plans to spend time together as a family. With the virus still on the loose, its tricky to see how Heather could come here from Scotland and return.
Serving Christ with You, Steve and Alberta
